The Doc Shiffer Recon is a flagship tactical folder that perfectly embodies the “overbuilt yet refined” philosophy of Steve “Doc” Shiffer. A veteran Army paramedic and Navy Corpsman, Shiffer draws on his real-world field experience to design tools that are robust enough for hard use but finished with the precision of a high-end custom. This specific Recon is a “Full Dress” build, utilizing a rare combination of Zirconium and Mokuti.
Mokuti Scales: The handle scales are crafted from Mokuti (Titanium Damascus), which has been heat-treated to reveal a stunning, multi-tonal spectrum of blues and golds. This material offers the strength of titanium with an intricate, swirling aesthetic that is unique to every knife.
Zirconium Bolsters & Clip: The bolsters and pocket clip are made from Zirconium. When heat-treated, Zirconium develops a deep, glassy black oxide layer that is incredibly hard and scratch-resistant, providing a sophisticated, dark anchor to the vibrant Mokuti scales.
Blue-Anodized Liners: The internal Titanium liners are anodized a rich blue, providing a hidden pop of color along the spine and interior that ties into the blue highlights of the Mokuti.
Hamon Detail: The blade features a genuine Hamon finish. This is achieved through a traditional differential heat-treatment process (often seen in Japanese katanas), where the spine is coated in clay before quenching.
