Randy Doucette Killer Serpent
The Randy Doucette Killer Serpent is a masterwork of aggressive tactical geometry combined with “Full Dress” materials. Doucette, a self-taught Canadian maker with a background in Tool and Die machining, is famous for hand-grinding every blade without the use of CNC, giving this piece a unique, artisanal soul.
Evolutionary Metallurgy: Damacore
The centerpiece of this build is the Damacore blade.
-
The Construction: Damacore is a high-performance “san mai” (three-layer) steel from Damasteel. It features a center core of N11X high-nitrogen steel—celebrated for its extreme edge sharpness and corrosion resistance—sandwiched between beautiful layers of stainless Damascus.
-
The Result: You get the stunning visual complexity of a Damascus pattern with the elite cutting performance of a modern super-steel core.
Black Timascus “Triple Threat”
This configuration features an extensive use of Black Timascus (a titanium/zirconium laminate) on three key focal points:
-
The Bolsters: Providing a dark, swirling iridescent anchor to the handle.
-
The Clip: 3D-machined to show off the layered patterns of the exotic metal.
-
Floating Backspacer: The backspacer “floats” between the liners, adding a subtle architectural detail that is only visible when inspecting the spine.
Precision Internal Finishes
Doucette is known for hidden details that only a collector can fully appreciate:
-
Liners: The Titanium liners are anodized blue, but the finishing is tiered. The exterior edges feature an orange-peel texture to hide wear, while the interior surfaces are jeweled (engine-turned), creating a brilliant, shimmering effect when the knife is viewed from the top or bottom.
-
Hardware: Outfitted with custom titanium hardware and pivots from Steve Kelly, ensuring every screw is of the highest possible precision.
About the Maker
Based in Ontario, Canada, Randy Doucette is a full-time maker who specializes in large, futuristic tactical flippers. His work is characterized by “free-hand” hollow grinds and an ergonomic handle design that locks the hand in place. Because he performs all work by hand, his production is limited, making “New from Maker” pieces highly sought after.
