Neil Blackwood Pipsqueak Folder (Pre-owned)

The Neil Blackwood Pipsqueak is a legendary “little big knife,” a design that successfully challenges the traditional boundaries between a compact EDC and a heavy-duty tactical folder. While many collectors are familiar with the Boker production version, this full-custom piece showcases the hand-finished precision and unique surface treatments that made Blackwood a premier name in the custom world before his retirement.
A Masterclass in Texture and Finish
This Pipsqueak is distinguished by a highly curated aesthetic that focuses on contrast:
-
The Blade: Crafted from Bohler S90V, a premier super-steel known for elite edge retention. The blade features a striking acid river wash, a proprietary-style etching that creates a dark, organic, “weathered” pattern. This is beautifully offset by satin polished flats, highlighting the bold recurve geometry and hand-ground swedge.
-
The Scales: Carbon Fiber scales replace the typical Micarta or G10, providing a significant weight advantage and a high-end, modern chatoyancy that shifts in the light.
-
The Frame: The lock-side is a robust Titanium frame-lock, which has been stonewashed and anodized blue. This finish is exceptionally durable, as the stonewashing helps hide the “snail trails” typical of high-polished titanium.
Compact Power: The “Pipsqueak” DNA
Despite its small footprint, the Pipsqueak is engineered for extreme tasks:
-
Ergonomics: The handle is oversized relative to the blade, allowing for a full four-finger grip even for those with large hands. The deep index finger choil provides a high level of security during heavy cuts.
-
Mechanism: Known for a “vault-like” lockup, the titanium frame-lock on Blackwood’s customs is hand-fitted to ensure zero play and a smooth, consistent release.
-
Condition: Excellent, having been part of a consignment collection, it retains its original mechanical integrity and factory-sharp geometry.
About the Maker
Neil Blackwood, based in Florida, was a highly influential figure in the custom tactical scene starting in the mid-90s. He is famous for his collaborations with brands like Benchmade (the Rukus and Skirmish) and Boker (the Pipsqueak). Since his retirement in 2017, original custom pieces like this have become increasingly difficult to source on the secondary market.
