South African knifemaker Anton van der Westhuizen is based in Port Elizabeth and is an active member of the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa. In recent years, he has been producing elegant, high-end folding knives made from top-quality modern materials. We were pleased when he approached us years ago at the annual Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa Show to feature some of his pieces at BladeGallery, and his work has continued to grow and evolve since that time.
This knife features a raised harpoon blade crafted from heat-colored Nebula damascus forged by renowned bladesmith Bertie Rietveld. The intricate damascus pattern immediately draws the eye and sparks the imagination. The heat-colored steel shifts between shades of purple and blue as it moves in the light. Because the blade is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to prevent rust and oxidation.
The blade is perfectly centered and operates with a smooth, drop-shut action thanks to the ceramic IKBS bearing system. Deployment is effortless via the ambidextrous front flipper tab, and once the lock is disengaged, the blade falls shut with ease.
The handle is constructed from bead-blasted 6Al-4V titanium, and the sturdy framelock ensures a secure lockup. The pivot, backspacer, inlays, and pocket clip are all made from matching heat-colored Black Timascus, a zirconium/titanium damascus. The pocket clip is configured for right-side, tip-up carry.
